India To Install 13.9GW Of New PV in 2022
Mar 30, 2023
According to market intelligence firm Ember, India has installed 13.9GW of new solar PV in one year in 2022, well ahead of cumulative solar deployment in several countries such as the UK (13.7GW), Turkey (7.8GW) and Chile (4.5GW). With Rajasthan and Gujarat leading the way with 8.6GW of new installations.
Together with wind's 1.83GW, India's 2022 deployment of solar and wind additions reached 15.7GW, up 17% year-on-year and accounting for 92% of the country's 2022 additions, while coal additions were less than 1GW, down 78% year-on-year and accounting for only 5% of the country's 2022 additions.
Going forward Rajasthan and Gujarat are expected to continue to account for the largest share of installed solar and wind power with their 2030 renewable energy targets of 90GW and 61.4GW respectively.

According to Ember, the 8.6GW of solar PV capacity added in Rajasthan and Gujarat in 2022 is more than the entire PV capacity of Turkey. The remaining Indian states even installed more solar capacity last year than all of Chile's installed solar capacity.(EMBER)
